98,725 kilos of spoiled food destroyed in Oman

A total of 98,725 kilos of spoiled food was destroyed at the Central Market in Al Mawaleh in February, Muscat Municipality said on Tuesday.

The inspection department had found the food items unsuitable for human consumption. The items showed decay due to bad storage or presentation.

Pomegranates topped the list of items destroyed with more than 22,000 kilos, followed by apples and tangerines with 20,049 and 18,889 kilos respectively.

Similarly , 13,869 kilos of pears, 13,791 kilos of grapes, 7,894 kilos of oranges, 1,200 kilos of potatoes, 550 kilos of peaches and 550 kilos of tomatoes were destroyed.
