New baggage drop counters at airport

Muscat: Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) has simplified the procedures for passengers travelling out of Muscat Airport with a new baggage drop facility.

In a statement released recently, the company said passengers should keep their travel documents — ticket, boarding pass and travel visa — ready and then review details of booking, check-in online and subsequently print the boarding pass.

Accordingly, passengers can go to check-in counters 16 and 17 to drop their baggage without having to wait at counters for their turn to check-in or get boarding pass.

As per its five-year corporate strategy unveiled in 2016, the company has sought to rank the Muscat airport among the top 20 in the world. For the first nine months of this year, 10,524,459 passengers used Muscat airport, a 16.9 per cent increase from 9,005,906 passengers, during the same period of 2016.

Cargo movement went up 28. 5 per cent from 114,988,298 to 147,754,802, while the civil aircraft movement went up 11.8 per cent to 85,651 from 76,637. The new Muscat airport will be able to handle 20 million passengers annually.
