New water tariff for govt, commercial and industrial sectors

The Public Authority for Water and Electricity (PAEW) has said that it will bill government, commercial and industrial bodies for water as per the new tariff from this month.

The new tariff will be a single slab, and was printed on the February invoice to inform customers of the change, said Mohammed Ali al Yahyaee, PAEW’s senior manager of operations and control.

Yahyaee said that the tariff will be 3.5bz per gallon for all three sectors, up from the earlier 3bz. He said the average cost of production and distribution of water is nearly 7bz per gallon, while it is sold at less than half of this amount.

Yahyaee reiterated that the rate for delivery to domestic users remains untouched at 2bz for one gallon to 5,000 gallons and 2.5bz for consumption over 5,000 gallons.

This, he said, was because the price of water sold to tanker operators had been adopted years ago at 1bz per gallon for tankers with less than 700 gallon capacity and 3bz for tankers having a larger capacity.
