Policy to prevent use of narcotics and psychotropic substances reviewed in Oman

The Health Minister had issued a decision to reform the National Committee for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances last January.

Latest developments in several projects namely, the National Strategy for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, 2016-2020, the National Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Centre Project, and the Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Projects was reviewed by the health minister.

During the meeting, new plans of the National Committee was discussed and the budget was ratified . Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health, recently presided over the first meeting of the National Committee for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, which was held at the ministry’s headquarters.

The meeting was attended by senior members of the National Committee from Ministries and other stakeholders.

It should be noted that the Health Minister had issued a decision to reform the National Committee for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances last January.

The Committee had proposed a National Public Policy in the field of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances control to be acknowledged by the cabinet.

It would create prevention and treatment plans in the field of tackling the illegal use of drugs and psychotropic substances and follow-up on their implementations.

Rules, regulations

The committee also proposed rules, regulations and decisions relevant to Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances.

Moreover, it conducted and supported field and scientific research and studies regarding drugs and psychotropic substances in addition to exchanging regional and international experts in this field.
