The Public Authority for Social Insurance (PASI), in its latest statistics, has said that 15,791 active establishments are currently covered by the social insurance system.

The number of active insured personnel in the private sector was 210,272 and the average salary of the insured workers is RO645.

The total number of registrations till February this year stood at 11,195 (24.6 per cent of the insured personnel), mainly in the 26-30 years age category.

Till February, services of 10,268 personnel had ended due to termination, resignation, transfer to other sponsor, death, disability or other reasons.

Under the insurance system, 38 Omanis working abroad and their equivalents are covered.

The number of active insured workers under the insurance protection extension system for GCC stood at 1,591 till May-end 2015. PASI said these figures reflect the awareness of the Omani workers on the importance of the pension systems and contribution to the social insurance system.

The number of Omanis having their own business and their equivalent, who are registered with the system, has grown to reach 7,410; thanks to growing entrepreneurship, the authority said.
