Court Awards Accident Victim RO 46,300 as Compensation

A Court of Appeals in Oman has awarded a RO46,300 compensation to a road accident victim who was hit by a speeding vehicle in Al Khuwayr in 2013. The victim, Sadhik Ahmed Anveri, received serious injuries to his head and eye in the accident.

Anveri was on the pedestrian walkway when he was hit by a vehicle coming from the wrong side. He was taken to a hospital in the sultanate and remained in a state of coma for a month. His treatment at the hospital continued for two months. His eyesight had been affected due to the accident.

Anveri, who hails from the southern Indian state of Karnataka, worked for a printing press in Muscat, his counsels from Khalid al Wahaibi Advocates and Legal Consultants, Nassar al Siyabi and M K Prasad, said.

The Primary Court awarded him RO20,000 as compensation following which a revision petition was filed in the Court of Appeals, which hiked the amount.

The court took into consideration his financial status as he was the sole bread winner of his family, the advocates told.
