Kuwait Airways announces new baggage policy, cuts excess luggage charges

Kuwait Airways has announced changes to its baggage policy “Baggage made simple” under which all its routes will operate on a piece concept basis.

The new policy, means that customers are entitled to one or two bags, depending on their class of travel.
Customers flying first class will now have increased allowance for two pieces of baggage at 32 kgs maximum weight per bag total 64 kgs compared to total 40 kgs allowance offered earlier.
Customers flying business class will now have increased allowance for two pieces of baggage at 23 kgs maximum weight per bag total 46 kgs compared to total 30 kgs allowance offered earlier.
Similarly, customers flying economy class to/from USA will now have allowance for two pieces with maximum weight of 23 kgs per bag and customers flying economy class to all other destinations will have allowance for one piece with maximum of 23 kgs.
Nevertheless, as a promotional offer, economy class passengers traveling other than to/from USA, will receive one extra piece of baggage with maximum weight of 23 kgs until April 30, 2016.
The increased allowance of two pieces 23 kgs each bag in economy will benefit customers to enjoy 46 kgs of allowance instead of 20 kgs offered earlier.
Further, as part of baggage policy change, the cost of excess baggage charge is also cut by allowing more weight at less cost.
Customers flying with excess baggage will now be charged on extra piece basis.
The first excess bag with maximum of 23 kilos will be charged RO 45, the second excess bag with 23 kilos will be charged RO 80 and the third excess bag with 23 kilos will be charged RO 130.
The new excess baggage charges per bag up to 23 kgs will be greater beneficial to customers carrying excess bags as the cost of buying an additional 23 kilos piece of baggage to many sectors cut by 60 per cent and above.
For example, the current excess baggage rate per kilo from Muscat to Manila charged is RO 7.300 per kilo and the cost to carry 23 kilos of baggage will be RO 167.900.
Whereas, under the new piece concept policy, the excess baggage charges will be RO 45 only for the first excess bag of 23 kgs.
Members of Kuwait Airways loyalty program will also benefit from the new policy as Oasis gold members will now receive an extra bag of 23 kilos to all online destinations.
Further, infant also will get a free baggage allowance one piece 10 kilos.
The changes in baggage policy will provide greater benefits to customers flying Kuwait Airways. Kuwait Airways currently operating four flights a week from Muscat to Kuwait and will be adding 5th frequency with effect 27th March 2016 giving convenient connections beyond KWI to India, Sub-continent and Far East.
