Majid Al Futtaim’s RO515mn investments to create over 42,000 jobs in sultanate

More than 42,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created when Majid Al Futtaim invests RO515mn in Oman by 2020.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Monday, Alain Bejjani, CEO, of Majid Al Futtaim – Holding, said the company’s new investments over the next five years will create 16,973 direct and 25,459 indirect jobs.

“Our commitment to Oman is very genuine, well-articulated and transparent. We are confident about creating more than 42,000 direct and indirect job opportunities with new investments.”

It is estimated that Mall of Oman’s development will generate 29,000 direct and indirect jobs. Majid Al Futtaim’s City Centre Sohar project, which will be the largest shopping and lifestyle destination in North Batinah, will generate an estimated 8,000 employment opportunities.

My City Centre Sur, which will be the group’s first community mall in Oman, will create more than 3,500 direct and indirect job opportunities.

The plans build on Majid Al Futtaim’s existing developments in Oman including Muscat City Centre, which received a RO35mn expansion in 2015, Qurum City Centre, which opened in 2008 and Al Mouj, Muscat. Since 2001, these three existing developments together have seen Majid Al Futtaim invest more than RO190mn and generate over 23,000 jobs in their construction and operation.

“If you add the number of jobs that were created before to the estimated new job opportunities then the total number of jobs will be around 65,579,” added Bejjani.
