Muscat Fitness Challenge contestants felicitated – Oman

The contest which started a few months back required participants to reduce weight in 60 days through a monitored diet and exercise schedule.

Dr Amira al Raidan, director of health education and awareness programme, Ministry of Health said, “It was a great and innovative idea to have the challenge and it is very impressive that both youth and adults took part and lost weight in these few months.”

She added that the challenge is not only beneficial physically but had a good impact on the mental health of the participant’s self esteem. “Obesity is affecting people of all ages. So, our focus is on prevention rather than cure which costs a lot. We got to know about this initiative from KIMS Oman Hospital and we decided to do something together. We intend to conduct the challenge for 50 people.”

The challenge was launched by KIMS Oman Hospital a few months back and it focussed on aerobics, gym, yoga, breathing exercises and right food to lose weight.

Kamal Ajay Khimji from Sri Sri Ayurveda said, “Health is wealth and [proper] breathing is one of the main ingredients of our existence.”
