Oman ranked 2nd for low cost of living

The Sultanate has been ranked second in the Arab countries as the most favoured by expatriates for its cheap cost of living.

According to an opinion poll conducted in 200 countries by InterNations Foundation to identify a list of the cheapest countries, Oman is the second choice after Saudi Arabia in the region. While Bahrain followed the Sultanate, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar won the other positions respectively. A total of 14,000 expatriates were included in the survey to evaluate the cost of living in the countries they arrive to work and live. The survey found that 75 per cent of the respondents were satisfied with the cost of living in their new home.

Commenting on the ranking, Selvan D’souza, who has been living in the Sultanate for the last 26 years, said, “There is no question about the cost of living and standard in Oman. It is the best and cheap in the region”. Here we enjoy excellent services and goods, he said, “Oman has the lowest inflation rate in the region”. Dr Fazil Ahmed said, “There is no dearth of easy availability of healthcare facilities, high quality of education and clean air and water and uninterrupted electricity in the country. These make the country a perfect destination for expatriates”. For Joseph Rodriguese, the main comfort is stability and security in the country. “Muscat is one of the safest cities where you can take your family in peace and serenity,” he said.
