PAEW attends International Renewable Energy Agency meeting in Abu Dhabi – Oman

The meeting concluded on Sunday. The sultanate’s delegation to the meeting was led by Dr Ali bin Hamad al Ghaferi, assistant chairman of the PAEW for International Relations and Conferences.

Dr Ghaferi in his speech said that the sultanate has completed its study of the National Energy Strategy. The decision was made to contribute ten per cent in the production of electricity by 2025 which is estimated at about 3GW, noting that this study will be re-evaluated in 2020 and efforts are on to launch the first solar projects. It may reach a capacity of 500MW and may be launched this year.

He added, “We would like to point out that wind energy is a promising aspect of the future of renewable energy in the sultanate, as indicated by the feasibility studies carried out. Therefore, efforts are under way to reserve suitable sites for 100 and 200MW wind power plants.

The meeting discussed the role of renewable energy in facing climate change and achieving goals of global sustainable development.
