SQU and Shura Council committee discuss research policy and practice – Oman

The aim of the visit was to discuss research policies and practice with authorities concerned in the university in order to facilitate friendly research environment in the sultanate by submitting recommendations to the Council of Ministers, stated a press release.

Khalid bin Yahya al Subhi, chairman of the Education and Research committee at the Shura Council, said that the aim of the visit to SQU was to learn about the research infrastructure, facilities, human resources and research output at the university and the challenges faced in promoting research. The whole idea is to evolve an ideal mechanism in which the educational and research institutions in the sultanate carry out strategic research that addresses the needs of the community.

Dr Salim bin Nasser al Kahali, vice chairman of the committee said the committee aims to work together with various stakeholders in Oman to evolve an ideal research policy and funding mechanism for the country.

At SQU, the committee members were received by Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrooqi, deputy vice chancellor for Postgraduate Studies & Research. Presentations on all the research centres at SQU were held for the committee members.
