Following the presentation, Intisar al Wahaibi, director general for Development Planning at the Secretariat General of the Supreme Council for Planning, presented a visual presentation entitled, ‘Looking ahead to the future of the Omani economy: the macroeconomic model and the supply and demand model for the labour force’.

The models aimed at drawing a picture of the components of the national economy, which are being used to identify the impact of different changes in the performance of national economy. She pointed out that the main characteristic of the Omani economy is its response to fluctuations in world oil prices and to analyse the impact of fluctuations in oil prices, the Ninth Five-Year Development Plan adopted several scenarios, each assuming a possible price per barrel of oil.

The plan is based on two basic models: The macroeconomic model, which aims at drawing up a picture of the relations of the Omani economy, how to change components of this economy, and the model of labour supply and demand balance estimates.

It aims to estimate the size and composition of entrants in the labour market in education and training outputs, and estimate the size and composition of demand for the operation of labour force and cross-sectional details of the most important models. Sultan bin Juma al Farsi, acting director of the Legal Affairs Department also presented a paper.
