More rain likely from Monday

Rains fell on many governorates across the Sultanate after low pressure was formed on Friday.

Moderate to heavy rains fell over Muscat, North and South Al Batinah, Al Dakhiliyah, North and South Al Sharqiyah causing some wadis to overflow and disrupting the traffic movement.
The Directorate-General of Meteorology and Air Navigation at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation predicts partly cloudy conditions over the northern governorates with chances of scattered rains and occasional thundershowers on the Hajar mountains and the coastal areas of the Sea of Oman. The Met office said that the Sultanate will be affected by an upper air trough from Saturday.

The Public Authority for Civil Aviation warned citizens and residents to be cautious and to avoid crossing overflowing wadis. Fishermen and sea-goers are strongly advised to follow the weather updates before going to the sea. Many dams in the Sultanate are almost full after last week’s rain. At Wadi Dayqah and Wadi Imti, officials have released water which led to the swelling of downstream. Rescuers from Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) have managed to rescue 31 people including women and children who got stranded in the swollen downstream at Wadi Dayqah Dam in Qurayat. After PACDA operations centre received reports of people trapped near the dam’s downstream, they rushed to the site with rubber boats and managed to pull out all the stranded victims in a rescue operation that last four hours.
