A school bus driver who was involved in an accident while transporting children from Indian School Muscat (ISM) on Monday afternoon in Muttrah, was drunk, police officials said.
“He was drunk when the accident happened,” the police official said.
The bus had reportedly hit a jeep near Oman House in Muttrah.
According to a parent said, “It was a passerby who contacted the police and the parents by taking the number from the child’s ID card. When my wife got the call, she rushed to the spot and found that the driver was out of the bus and the children were crying. Meanwhile, police came and took the driver under custody. Later on, another driver transported the children,” the parent added.
Fortunately, the children didn’t suffer any injuries but they were in a state of panic and crying, said the parent.
Meanwhile, when contacted, an official from the transport company declined to comment on the incident.
