Accident Victim Wins RO32,000 in Damages

A Primary Court in Muscat has awarded a compensation of RO32,000 to an Indian School Seeb student who suffered serious injuries after being hit by a school bus last year.

“Considering the injury sustained by the student and her future prospects, the court awarded the compensation worth RO32,000 recently. The student is currently undergoing treatment in India and her education has come to a halt due to the accident,” said advocates Nassr al Siyabi and Prasad M K of Khalid al Wahaibi Advocates and Legal Consultants, counsel for the victim.

After being hit by the bus, the student was rushed to hospital with facial and head injuries and a bleeding nose. Medical examinations revealed injury to the optic nerve which had damaged her pupils. Surgeons operating upon her discovered that her right pupil had dilated and non-reacting to light.

She also underwent an emergency craniotomy and evacuation of hematoma. She was in ICU on life support for some time, the medical report submitted by the advocates in the court stated. “The compensation will be of great help to the family to meet their child’s medical expenses. We welcome the verdict by the court,” the advocates told.
