More rain expected in the Sultanate

Rain in some parts of Oman will bring down temperatures this week, according to Oman Meteorology Department.

“Latest analysis shows that the Sultanate may get affected by a trough of low pressure with chances of light rain over northern governorates from Wednesday,” an official of Oman Meteorology Department said.

The low pressure is likely to bring some rain in northern governorates including Muscat from Wednesday. “This will continue for three to four days,” the official added.

“Strong northeasterly winds will also help in dropping the temperature. Sea state is expected to be rough along the Oman Sea,” the official said.

Last week, heavy rain fell on several areas in Oman causing massive flooding, overflowing of wadis and disruption of flights, as well as closing down the Muscat Festival and some schools on Tuesday.

Apart from Muscat, heavy to moderate rainfall was also recorded over governorates of Musandam, Muscat, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, North and South Al Batinah, North and South Al Sharqiyah and Al Dakhliah.

In its outlook for the next two days, the met department said that there are chances of rainfall over Musandam governorate and Oman sea. “Mainly clear skies over rest of the sultanate with chances of fog over Oman Sea coastal areas and governorates of Dhofar, Al Wusta and South Al Sharqiya,” the Oman Meteorology Department said.
